Hedley Merriman

Hedley Merriman is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He commenced practice in 1966 with the City firm of surveyors Messrs Chamberlain & Willows and was made an equity partner within that firm in 1976. In 1987 the partnership was sold to The Prudential Corporation and Hedley was appointed a director of their subsidiary Prudential Commercial Properties Services Limited. Hedley was a founding partner of Pater Johnson Merriman in 2000.

Hedley divides his working time as a general practice surveyor between agency and professional work including valuation, rent reviews, lease renewals, dilapidations, Landlord & Tenant advice, expert witness representation and project management. Hedley has given evidence at numerous inquires both acting for Central and Local Government and private enterprise.

Clients for whom Hedley has provided commercial property advice include the Government of Gibraltar, Department of the Environment, the Home Office, Ministry of Defence, Greater London Council, Training and Enterprise Council, National Union of Journalism, J Sainsbury Plc, Tesco Plc, London Fire Brigade and British Telecom.

Whilst Hedley is a self-confessed ‘workaholic’ he enjoys his time away from the office with his family and particularly his grandchildren. His interests include Tottenham Hotspur football club and furthering his renowned culinary skills.

Jake Pater joined PJM Surveyors in 2009 and has established himself as a leading industrial and office agent. Upon graduation he joined the niche retail agency Harper Dennis Hobbs before moving to SBH Page & Read specialising in industrial and office agency. Upon joining PJM, Jake was entrusted with day to day organization of the office and investment development agency department and he was made a director in 2011.Jake’s area of expertise is the North and North West industrial sector, however he has a wide and varied client base across the British Isles with notable instructions in Oxford, Corby, Derby & Cardiff. Since 2008 Jake has disposed of, and acquired in excess of 1000,000 sq ft of office & industrial property for clients including: Tag Europe, Hennard Edmonton, Structadene, Caring Homes Ltd, Kino Design, The Turkish Food Group, Village Press, Byron & Byron, Grant & Boyd, Ladd Construction, Teamsport Go-Karting, Professional Print Finishers, Dogtas UK, TLK Edwards Group and Condor Cycles.

In recent years Jake has focused his attention office agency across the City and West End of London. He was integral in Bwin’s landmark 20,000 Sq Ft leasehold acquisition at One New Change and has been involved in disposals and acquisitions on a number of iconic buildings across the capital.Jakes is married with three children. His main passions include following Tottenham Hotspur and the England Cricket Team.

Derek has forty years’ experience in the acquisition and sale of commercial property and is experienced in providing feasibility advice on development projects both in the UK and abroad.

He was formerly senior partner of niche agency Whitehouse Lewis where he acted for the Christina Onassis Fund and managing director of Devonshire Estates, where he was responsible for the project management of Oakview Lodge and subsequent sale of the development to the Princess Norhayati of Brunei. He Other notable transactions include the sale of No 1 Pepys Street, EC4 to Galliard Homes for £26m, the acquisition of the headquarters of fashion house Agent Provocateur and advising BritArt agent Jay Jopling in the letting of the White Cube Gallery.

When Derek is not being the Chairman of the Association of Surveyors and Architectural Consultants or organizing the Cannes Luncheon Club he can be found spending time with some of his eleven grandchildren.
